A note about this blog:
Just how *do* you go about getting into the alpaca lifestyle when it seems near impossible due to lack of funds or lack of a farm? How on earth do you learn to care for these tranquil creatures once you get them home? This journal documents how we started from the ground up with next to no funds and no knowledge, and how, with the help of very supportive breeders and friends, it is possible to make a dream come true! Join me on this very honest and personal journey. ~Roo~

Sad news

Posted by roo on November 18th, 2009 — Posted in Dee Dee

Sad news, everyone… Dee passed away through the night. I just got off the phone, she’ll be transferred to a diagnostic lab for a complete necropsy to determine what the cause is.

It is so important in the field of camelids that information is shared and I hope that this will shed some light on neurological issues, their causes and their treatment.  Of course I will post the results as soon as I have them, those of you with alpacas of your own may learn something that may be very useful down the track.

I am so grateful for the overwhelming number of you who immediately flooded us with love, support, and financial aid with her vet bills by purchasing the bookmarks in my Etsy store.  I’d hoped, of course, for a happy ending, and that did not seem unrealistic when she became stable and her bloodwork showed improved in just a matter of days.  Unfortunately Dee, strong in spirit as she was, felt that this was too much.  I’ll update again as soon as I have some news.

I’m so sorry, dear. It’s hard to lose a very special animal. I hope you got enough of our help to make it at least not financial burden as well. Lots of love is coming your way. . .

Hey Roo. Just heard about Dee. That is so sad, I’m sorry to hear that.

You are right. It is important for us to share the “bad” as well as the good. We can all learn from each others’ experiences. Thank you for sharing her story. She was lucky to have you!

P.S. Your Etsy shop looks divine.

Sorry to read, just now.
Sometimes you don’t post anyghitn for so long……..and me having so little time, you know what it’s like. I thought I’d check your blogs again today, since I ended up with Jesse’s card back here, returned. Hope you’re getting through this latest heartache.
If it’s any consolation, I have heard from Anneke’s youngest son (your neighbour in the M.L. Kingweg), Arnoud, he says he still clearly remembers your mother. That’s nice huh ? I think so.
I am thinking of you too. We’re going through though times ours3elves, but am taking it one day at a time.
Hugs a plenty for you all.
