Workshop Details

A weekend of spinning and weaving, focusing on creative flow and texture, featuring alpaca fiber and other fun add-ins! At the end of the weekend you'll have new skills, new friends, and a wonderful shawlette as a memento. Don't have time to do both days? That's fine, each day is a stand alone workshop, choose your favourite and come for just one day :)

DAY 1:
CORESPINNING
Saturday, 4 August 2018
9:00am to 5:00pm

An introduction to corespinning carded fiber, fun blends, and locks so that you can create your own textured novelty yarns. We'll be setting/wet finishing the yarns and hanging them to dry at the conclusion of the day.

Participants need to be comfortable with traditional drafting and plying, and bring a wheel that is capable of spinning bulky textured yarns, as well as two empty bobbins and a lazy kate.  If you have a niddy-noddy or umbrella swift that you don't mind sharing, please bring that also.

Lunch and all materials for the workshop including carded batts, sparkle cloud and locks are included.

DAY 2 : CUT STRAND TRILOOM WEAVING
Sunday, 5 August 2018
1:00pm to 5:00pm

Suitable for both beginners and those who are familiar with the continuous strand method.

Make a fabulous 2.5 foot shawlette while learning this very easy triloom weaving technique. These finished shawlettes retail for $95 in Roo's studio.

The cut strand method is perfect for mixing and matching highly textured yarns, left over project remnants, even ribbons and lace, and creates its own fringe as you go!

For this part of the weekend workshop we will be using the novelty yarns that were created on day 1.

If you did not attend the spinning workshop on day 1, don't worry! You will be provided with a skein of Roo's handspun novelty yarn to make your shawlette with.

A triangular loom will be provided for each participant to use during class.

Triloom weaving only (Sunday): $80
Both days: $175

Lunch is included on Saturday.

Alpaca owners and fiber artists...
Did you know that all workshops and classes are
TAX DEDUCTIBLE?
They fall under 'education'!

Tips:
- Wear clothing you don't mind getting dirty on day 1, or bring an apron
- A camera is always handy, and besides, you may want to share your creations with your Facebook friends during class
- Bring business cards to share - after all, we need to create a support network!
